Do you really understand the great love that God has for you?

"And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience), and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us..." (1 John 4:16 amp).

Do you have faith in His Love?  He has promised never to leave you or forsake you. When you are feeling desperate, all alone, REMEMBER ...Jesus Loves you, this I know for the Bible tells me so!

This is the heart of the gospel. God so loved the world He gave His only son for you.  Encourage yourself today as you read about a woman that was desperate, she had nothing but a little jar of oil. BUT when she surrendered her nothing to God, Her jar, became full and running over!

Desperate people will reach a point where it is not about them, but about the Lord. Crisis moments are defining moments, they reveal what is in our heart and where we place our trust. Desperation is a powerful force and can work for us or against us. Decisions we make in desperate times determine our outcome.

Many times in my life, I have been frustrated with life, with myself and yes, with God. I hang on to a scripture that God revealed to me in my early Christian walk. "Since the Lord is directing your steps, why try to understand everything that happens along the way" (Proverbs 20:24 LB).

In 2 Kings 4 we find a desperate woman. She made a wise decision and went to the prophet to ask for help. BUT did she expect the question he asked, "... what do you have in the house?" (vs.2). She came for answers not questions!

"And she said, Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil." She had just lost her husband, she was in debt, her creditors were coming to take her sons and she had nothing but a jar of oil. She was desperate!

  • She had to humble herself

  • She had to admit her need.

That is usually our biggest problem, admitting our need and weakness.

The prophet told her to go and gather all the empty vessels she could find, and not a few! How was this going to help...now she was gathering everyone's 'nothing,' empty vessels, to add to her nothing.

He also told her to 'shut the door.' That was no problem, she didn't want anyone to see what she was doing. They were already talking about her running around the neighborhood gathering empty vessels. She was the laugh of the day.

Once she had gathered the vessels, she had to make another decision. Would she follow the instructions to pour from her little jar of oil. It looked so impossible. What was the purpose?

By faith she began to pour from her little jar of oil, trusting in the word from the man of God! She kept pouring and I'm sure the tears were flowing as she saw the miracle provision of God. Not only had He provided the need for the moment, but exceedingly, abundantly above all that she could ask or think! (Ephesians 3:20).

This is the same God that we serve! What is your need today? What's in your house?

The Holy Spirit is in your house. "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" (1 Corinthians 6:19).

The Holy Spirit is your helper and you have an advantage over the world. "Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is to your ADVANTAGE that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you."

Are you desperate today? Does your situation look hopeless? All you have to do is ASK. The woman went to the prophet and asked for help. Be encouraged, have faith in HIS LOVE for you.
